Bishop Fulbert is one of the most famous of the bishops of Chartres,
most well known perhaps for his quite vast rebuilding of the cathedral
following a disasterous fire, which itself seems to have been a visible expression of his devotion
to the cult of the Virgin, which may also be seen in several of his sermons devoted to her life.

An early 11th century manuscript
(formerly in Saint-Etienne, now in the municipal library at Chartres)
illumination by Andre de Micy
seems to depict Bishop Fulbert within his newly constructed Cathedral:
